S.O.A.P Examples

S.O.A.P Example 1:

Scripture:

Psalm 32:3 "When I kept silent my bones grew old through my groaning all the day long. For day and night Your hand was heavy upon me; my vitality was turned into the drought of summer."

Psalm 32:5 "I acknowledged my sin to You and my iniquity I have not hidden. I said, "I will confess my transgressions to the Lord," And You forgave the iniquity of my sin."

Observation:

God made a spiritual law that if we try to hide our sin and wrongdoing that it will and should affect us. Not just in our soulish mind, but also in our body…" my vitality was turned into the drought of summer…"

When I refuse to confess, refuse to acknowledge my sin… I fade away…

Application:

I very easily fall in the trap of hiding and trying to pretend that it has no effect… And I suffer as a result. Lord, I want to live a repentance and confession-filled life, free from burdens and free from low vitality.

Prayer:

Let me live in the pasture of Your forgiveness, let me never grow weary of confession and repentance. May shame and guilt never have their way and keep me from Your presence and forgiveness.

S.O.A.P Example 2:

Scripture:

Psalm 97:10-11, "You who love the Lord, hate evil! He preserves the souls of His saints; He delivers them out of the hand of the wicked. Light is sown for the righteous, and gladness for the upright in heart.

Observation:

David says it very strong! If you love God, hate evil. Hate, what does hate mean? Abhor, loathe, detest, will find insufferable, be repulsed by it, refuse and prohibit it in your life in any shape or form. God does the following for us:

He preserves our souls
He delivers us form our enemies
He sows light for the righteous
He sows gladness for the upright

Application:

Do I hate evil; do I abhor evil, do I detest and loathe it? Am I repulsed by it? Do I refuse it in any shape or form into my life? Do I look to God for that preservation of my soul, Do I look to Him for the deliverance? Do I look to Him for the light, the understanding and the wisdom? Do I look to Him for the gladness of my heart?

Prayer:

Lord, help me to abhor, detest and loathe and hate evil. Thank you for preserving my soul (keeping me in the right mind and helping me with peace and clarity and joy). Thank You for delivering me from my enemies. Thank You Lord for giving me light in the middle of all my struggles and gladness in the middle of all my rushed-ness.

S.O.A.P Example 3:

Scripture:

Romans 4:5

But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.

Observation:

God forgives us, not because we are good children, not because we try to keep the law… in fact we cannot. So God in his undeserved kindness comes to us and offers us freedom and cleansing from our sins by believing the sacrifice of Jesus on the cross. When we accept the sacrifice and believe it God forgives all our sins and washes us from it and declares us righteous - in right standing with Him, restored relationship, restored potential, loved and accepted.

Application:

In my life, Jesus died on that cross to do willingly exactly what the Father asked of Him: To give His life as a sacrifice and full payment of my sin. As I accept this payment and receive its effect, I am washed and cleansed from my sins, I am forgiven and I am restored in relationship with God. I am counted as righteous and clean and able to receive all the blessing and favour of my Father - without doing anything.

Now my hearts desire is to be an example of what a man of God looks like. Just like Abraham, who did not work at all but just believed and received, so do I want to believe and receive.

Accept the sacrifice, accept the forgiveness and the healing and the restoration that was already bought for you, Henri accept it and live in it.

Your faith is not in what you can get… your faith is in the God who already gave you everything

Prayer:

Lord, what a privilege to be able to trust You and believe in Your undeserved kindness, that You gave Jesus and the He willingly gave His life and shed His blood for me. Lord I accept the price and I accept the cleansing and the forgiving of my sin. Lord I accept the gift of righteousness and I walk in it, grateful for the undeserved kindness You show towards me. Thank you for making me Your son.
